UAE TO SEND A LUNAR OVER TO THE MOON 2021 Business by bharwana076 - August 2, 2021August 15, 20210 Have you ever wondered what it feels like to go to the moon? Is it possible and most importantly can a human go to the moon? Well, I don’t know the answer to all of those questions but I do know that the UAE can do it and is doing all the preparations to send a lunar rover to the moon. It will be the first Arab country to do so and the fourth one in the world to land on the moon after the United States, the former Soviet Union, and China. The lunar rover has been named, ‘Rashid’ after late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. The Dubai Media Office (DMO) tweeted which said, “As the UAE celebrates the achievement of the @HopeMarsMission probe, a group of Emirati scientists is already engaged in another historic feat: building a lunar rover. The vehicle will be another regional first- and it is smaller than any rover to have landed on the moon.” SMALLEST AND LIGHTEST ‘Rashid’ is going to be the smallest rover to land on the moon. It will be built at a height of 70cm (2.3ft) and will be the lightest lunar rover weighing approximately 10kg (22 pounds) along with its payload. Its length and width are 50 cm.The Dubai Media Office reported that the rover will be ready to launch in 2024 and the Emirate Lunar Mission aims to travel to a part of the moon where a lunar rover has never landed before. Moreover, the exact site of the landing has not been revealed yet. MADE BY EMIRATI This lunar mission is a part of the new 2021-2031 strategy which was launched by the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC). The Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced on September 29, 2020, the launch of the lunar rover that is planned to land on the moon by 2024. PROTOTYPE TESTING IN 2023 The project manager of Emirates Lunar Mission at Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC) noted that Emirati engineers are working on designing the lunar rover and the manufacturing and assembly will be completed in 2022. Moreover, experiments and tests of the prototype will start in 2023. The lunar rover, Rashid will have advanced technologies which include a 3D camera, advanced motion system, sensors, a microscope camera, and a thermal imaging camera, and also a state-of-the-art communication system. It will run on solar panels after being launched on the moon. The four cameras will move in different directions vertically and horizontally. Moreover, the rover will be equipped with sensors and systems which will analyze the properties of soil, dust, radioactivity, electrical activities, and rocks on the surface of the Moon. Also, the maximum speed of the rover will be 10 cm/s. CONCLUSION All in all, the UAE is dedicated and trying hard to win global achievements and be the first Arab country to land on Moon.
